Best beaches in Australia revealed, and Cabarita in NSW is country’s top spot

Swimming or relaxing at the beach is a quintessential part of the Australian summer. Whether you love the big, bustling beaches like Bondi and Gold Coast, or the quiet sands of Tasmania’s Bay of Fires, there’s a beach for everyone.

Tourism Australia and beach expert Brad Farmer teamed up to compile the book 101 Best Australian Beaches in 2012, which identified the top beaches in Australia.

Since the book’s release, Farmer has created an annual list of the country’s top 20 beaches.

He claims to have experienced 4000 of Australia’s 12,000 beaches and, each year, names the best beaches based on what is affordable, accessible and authentic.

In his 2020 list, Cabarita Beach in northern NSW was named as Australia’s number one beach.
